Artwork by Sébastien Libert – Neuroplasticity, ascription, and the fragmentation of later life
Using the malleability of clay as a medium and reference, this artwork questions biomedical ideas of neuroplasticity, cognitive rehabilitation, and their cultural significance in later life. The juxtaposition of individual and evanescent figures evokes the social pressure to sustain unrealistic expectations of brain fitness and the fear of being ascribed into the social imaginary of a “failed” ageing.
